Every time I sit down for a consultation, the subject of sleep comes up. If not, I investigate and ask more questions because throughout the years, quality of sleep is in the eye of the beholder. Some might say that their sleep patterns are fine but have only been sleeping 6 hours, which is still not enough, for the last few weeks only. If you think you are alone with this issue, think again. Here are a few statistics[i].
-50-70 million US adults have a sleep disorder.
– Drowsy driving is responsible for 1,550 fatalities and 40,000 nonfatal injuries annually in the United States.
– Insomnia is the most common specific sleep disorder, with short-term issues reported by about 30% of adults and chronic insomnia by 10%.
– 25 Million U.S. adults have obstructive sleep apnea.
Now, most of us know what should be done but understanding the reasons why behind it can give us the extra push to actually do it. We all have busy lives and unfortunately, we would all wish that we could get a few extra hours in a day to accomplish what should be done in order to have a restful night. If you can’t get that thinking box at off, that little thing we call the brain, you’ll probably end up waking up in the middle of the night thinking about all the things you should and shouldn’t do tomorrow and for the rest of the week.
So to put that thinking box on off, here are a few tips to get it done.
