The solutions to your new years resolutions
Like every other year, January first will be war time on the fat around your waist for the first 3 to 4 weeks where failure will be watching and laughing at you again.
What follows will hopefully help you cut those bad habits once and for all and keep the better ones longer than a few sneezes.
I will eat better.
Can you define that? What is your definition of eating well? This might be where you get bitten in the ass every time you try to lose fat, and the main reason why you can’t last a few weeks on your new habits.
Nutrition is one of the most important aspects of a well thought out plan, which should be tailored to your needs. Investing in a great professional can get you results faster and without wasting your hard earned money. Think about it, is it more expensive to restart and do the same mistakes year after year costing you a gym membership that you won’t even use for more than a few months (gym owners know that for a fact and are counting on it) or doing it right the first time and keep the results coming?
Now, you must be saying to yourself; here comes the part where he tells us what to eat. Nope! That’s the reason why you fail often, you are doing what everyone is doing! You are not like everyone else! You need to individualize your approach so it can last. In fact you know most of it, stop eating CRAP! The rest needs a little more time, like protein, fat, carbs requirements, activity levels, lifestyle. All these need to be taken into consideration when you build YOUR plan. The baseline of all North America is not YOUR needs.
I will start working out
Same principle as nutrition. Being physically active means that you need to move, you just have to do it intelligently. When you start from nothing and suddenly start walking on a treadmill or training with weights, you will get results and fast…for the first few weeks.
Is there one method better than the other? Cardio or weights or cardio with weights. Many will lead you to believe that yes, one of them is way better than the other. Then again, both are RIGHT!
However, your body will become more efficient at dealing with the new energy demands so it will burn less and less energy for the same effort over time. Yet, one method will become more efficient to keep your metabolism active, which is you guessed it, lifting weights. Gaining lean muscle mass by lifting weights increases your basal metabolic rates way more than those treadmill only workouts that has minimal effects over time on your metabolism. In fact, you may lose weight, but since you may weigh less, you body will find it easier to push you forward, making those workouts even easier.
A combination of both will maximize your results and if done well, in half the time. Then again, without the nutritional guidance of point number 1, failure may come faster than you think.Oh, you think that you can out train your diet, that you can burn the excess calories away? It will always catch up with you sooner or later.
I will stop eating late night snacks.
Do you suffer from insomnia? You can hardly eat in the morning? You have no energy in the morning? You have crazy food cravings throughout the day? You always wake up around 2 or 3 am?
Those are only a few problems linked to the late night snacking habit. Stopping this revolving door of a problem may be easier then you might think.
Do not tell yourself that those snacks are the problem, but ask yourself why you get those late cravings in the first place. You probably are the type to have a toast and coffee for breakfast or just don’t eat breakfast at all. You also probably eat, and this is in your good days, a maximum of 2 meals a day.
Your body is screaming for more calories. So at the end of the day, chillaxing on your couch in front of your big screen television, watching endless commercials of fast and junk food, and that cortisol is not rushing in your veins anymore, all you want now is to eat everything that comes your way.
After, you’ll go to bed with a full belly and a calmer head, but will wake up like grumpy cat and will get caught in the revolving door again, insomnia, no appetite, no energy, bad cravings…
You just found out that you are the main suspect in the unsolved mystery of ‘’but why the hell can’t I lose fat’’.
