News feeds , TV commercials and paid programs or just some of your “fit friends” are spreading non sense day in and day out. We have to fight against “popular beliefs” which are fed by these paid for hungry business commercial. All they want is to get people’s attention, fishing for gullible clients who are ready to invest X amount of money to find the next big thing that will get them into top shape faster than any of their friends. There is not a week where I don’t have to clear up facts and show that one principle persists, the principle of individualization. Let’s look at some of them.
– Leaving the gym almost dying is not an indication of a good workout.
If you think that you have to leave on all fours or else, you can’t call that a good workout, you are greatly mistaken. Always choose quality over quantity. Beating yourself up every workout, especially if you don’t have the supplementation and nutrition to support it (“supplements and eating well is expansive” says my sarcasm)
If you are a trainer and love to see your clients die at all cost, your a dumbass. I know that most people’s idea of a great workout looks like you should kill them, but if you should give them what they need, instead of what they want. Most can’t handle a good beating even if they wanted too. Your abilities as a trainer as nothing to do with how fast you can destroy your clients.
-Doing the same workout as your friend won’t give you the same results.
Your 115 pounds friend will probably find that crossfit WOD easier than your 140 pounds. Even if you know that there is a difference, at the end of the day, you wish you could be and do the same.
If you never trained before and want to try what you crazy fit freak friend is doing, you probably will leave the gym messed up and probably won’t be tempted to go back again because you know, this shit is too hard.
Learn to walk before you start running.
– Most people post their best pics
Please stop comparing yourself to fitness bunnies or your friends profile pics and selfies. Be your own version of you. Especially that no one will put their worst pictures, think about it.
-Credentials and papers is only one part of being a great trainer.
Some trainers have all the credentials in the world but couldn’t teach a simple tricep pressdown even if their life depended on it. Before you invest in a big package (in this case let’s say spend), ask questions, client results, experience, etc. If something is not clicking in the first few minutes, it probably won’t in the first real session.
– Personal space while training
When I see stupidity in gyms, I break out in sarcasm. Why the hell do your trainer need to be up close and personal while showing a tricep pushdown? Do your trainer need to be hips to hips or breathing down a your neck when they show you exercises? A good trainer will give one or two cues per set. If they can’t show you the proper technique in 2 sets, the exercise is probably to complex for your experience.
– You should train like your trainer does
I don’t care if your trainer is crossfit, kettle bell or Tracey Anderson purse lifting 101 certified. Find a trainer that will fit your needs. Some like to make people believe that there actually is a one size fits all type of protocol. IT’S BULLSHIT! RUN AWAY! Now let’s go machine gun style.
Patience is the mother of all virtues they say…So in other words, you were patient while stuffing your face during all those years and gaining weight, so be patient when you try to burn all that shit out of your system. #EasyToUnderstand but why #NoOnefuckinGetIt
